Youth hockey

The NH Tile Peewee 2 team split three games over the weekend, dropping its first game to Newburyport, 5-2, tying Methuen, 2-2, and beating Lakes Region 1, 3-1. Against Newburyport, Harrison Briggs and Ben Pratt scored and Cam Jarvi and Ben Daniels recorded assists. In the tie against Methuen, James Shea and Derek Kelleher scored and Owen Olson and Zack Painchaud had the assists. In the Lakes Region game, Jacob Mielcarz, Olson and Logan Wineriter all had goals and Knox Brown and Nate Shirley picked up assists. Ben Gardiner played well in net all three games.

∎ The New Hampshire Distributors, Inc. Concord Capitals Squirt team defeated the East Coast Wizards of Bedford, Mass., 3-0. Ben Marceau, Cam Brown and Jake Marcoux scored for Concord. Adam Omundson and Troy Nelson played great splitting duties in goal.

Youth soccer

The Bow Avengers defeated Mini John Stark United in U6 action. Leah Gallier led the Avengers with three goals. Also scoring for Bow were Peyton Larrabee, Brad Ekstrom, Chuckie Braga and Ella Murphy. Hope Hansen and Gavin Parzik played good defense and Herbie Madden was strong in goal.

College standouts

Bow’s Katrina Wiesner, a swimmer on the St. Michael’s College women’s swim team, was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay in a 170-124 win over Colby-Sawyer.

∎ Lindy Heffernan of Sutton Mills, a runner on the St. Michael’s College women’s cross country team, was the second-fastest Purple Knight at the NCAA East Regional Championship, finishing 15th in the 6K race with a time of 23:14. St. Michael’s finished fourth out of 26 schools.

Hockey clinic

Learn to play hockey class is being offered at Tri Town Ice Arena in Hooksett. Cost is $159 for 20 on-ice sessions, that also includes a free public skating punch card valued at $60. Contact the arena at 485-1100.

Hopkinton sports awards

Hopkinton HS fall sports awards night will take place tonight in the high school gym at 6 p.m. All athletes, parents and fans are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Booster Club.

Events

Concord basketball is holding open gym time for CHS students planning to participate in basketball this winter on Sundays from 6-7:30 p.m. The open gym includes weight-room access.

Open gym for girls’ high school basketball players in the area will be held at Concord High School on Sundays from 4-6 p.m. Open gym is an opportunity for girls to shoot around as well as play in pick-up games. PICKLEBALL will be played weekly on Tuesdays from 3-5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-noon at the new Heights Community Center. Cost is $2 and all equipment is provided. All ages and ability levels are welcome. Contact Dave Stevenson at 225-5207.

Speed stacking cup after-school program at Beaver Meadow Elementary School will participate in a world-wide day of stacking Thursday and attempt to set a new Guinness record. Last year, a record was created in excess of 460,000 stackers globally. The goal for 2013 is 500,000 stackers, which would include stackers from all continents and all 50 states of U.S. For information about speed stacking cups, contact “Mr. Jim” at 225-5102.

BEAVER MEADOW GOLF COURSE will hold the following events. All events are open to the public: Saturday, Nine Hole Shootout for top 10 money winners, 10 a.m. start; Sunday, Willy Campbell Tournament; Nov. 23 Turkey Shoot, rain date Nov. 24.

John Stark Regional’s fall sports awards night for all athletes, parents and family will take place Nov. 19. The evening will start in the cafeteria at 6 p.m. where all teams will be recognized as well as presenting sportsmanship and scholar-athlete awards. The evening will conclude by programs moving into individual classrooms for team specific-recognition and dessert.

EVERETT ARENA is open for ice activities. Public skating is Monday-Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sundays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Skate rentals are available in the pro shop. Adult stick practice for ages 14 and older is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-11:20 a.m., and through Nov. 21 is offered Monday through Thursday from 3:30-4:45 p.m.; helmet and gloves required. Youth stick practice for ages 13 and younger is Fridays through Nov. 22 from 3:30-4:45 p.m.; full equipment required. Call Everett Arena at 228-2784.

Basketball tournament, the Andover Lions Club’s annual Christmas Tournament, will be held Dec. 26-27 at Proctor Academy. There are still openings for one boys’ team and one girls’ team. Contact Dick O’Connell at xlpdroc@metrocast.net or call 934-0245.

PLayers needed

LAKES REGION WOMEN’S Hockey Club has openings for women age 21 and older. Games are Tuesday nights at the Laconia Ice Arena from 8:15-9:45 p.m. Full equipment is required, but no experience is needed. Contact Sara Rosenbloom at sararosenbloom@hotmail.com, or call 528-6393.

NEW ENGLAND RAVENS baseball team, based out of Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, is looking to fill a couple of open roster spots for its 2014 season. The team is registered as underclassmen, so high school players are eligible. The team is under the direction of FPU Head Coach Jayson King. MEETINGS

Bow Soccer Club will hold its annual meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at Bow Middle School. All are welcome to attend.

John Stark Regional High will hold its winter sports parent/athlete meeting Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. After a brief presentation by the athletic director, parents and athletes will be sent to classrooms to meet with the coach. All athletes and at least one parent/guardian are expected to attend. If you cannot attend, you must contact your child’s coach to make alternate arrangements.

CONCORD HIGH winter sports Meet the Coach Night is scheduled for Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Team photos will be held Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. at CHS.

HILLSBORO-DEERING High School has winter sports tryouts set for the following dates, times and locations: boys’ basketball Nov. 25 in the gym at 2:40 p.m.; girls’ basketball Monday in the gym at 2:40 p.m.; cheerleading Monday in the cafeteria at 5:30 p.m.; indoor track Dec. 2 at the school at 2:40 p.m.; and Alpine skiing Nov. 25 at the school at 2:40 p.m. All athletes trying out must either have a physical already on file with the school nurse, or they must have a current physical for 2013-2014 ready to turn in to their coach. Any athlete who does not turn in a physical or have one on file will not be allowed to participate until doing so.

Pembroke Rec youth basketball signups are still open at the Pembroke Town Hall. The league is for boys and girls from Pembroke or Allenstown in pre-school, kindergarten and grades 1-6. Cost is $20. After Monday, there will be a $10 late fee added. Call 848-9677.

Special Olympics New Hampshire is looking for a practice coach to run the Young Athletes Program for the Concord community. It is a volunteer position for someone with a passion to work with children ages 2-7. Practice sessions follow the school calendar and are held weekly for 60 minutes and include activities created by specialists from the fields of special education, physical education, adaptive physical education, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Camps/clinics/lessons

SEACOAST EXPRESS UNITED and the YMCA of Concord will host the following soccer clinics at the YMCA Concord: Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. (through Jan. 14), U15-U18 boys and girls; Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. (through Jan. 15), U4-U10 and U10-U12 boys and girls; Fridays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. (through Jan. 17) U11-U14 boys and girls. ANDOVER OUTING CLUB is looking for prospective ski jumpers ages 7 and up to participate in the club’s ski jumping program this winter. The program normally starts in the second week of December on gentle slopes. Kids need only bring regular skis and a helmet. A waiver must be signed before practicing, but kids can try it without paying. Cost for the whole program is $100 to AOC for equipment ($75 for additional family members) and $65 to Proctor Academy. Practices are Mondays and Tuesdays from 4-5:15 p.m. Meets are on Saturdays and/or Sundays starting in January. Email Tim Norris at tim@proctornet.com with questions.

Hockey Winter Mentor Camp will be held Dec. 30 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Laconia Ice Arena. The camp includes two on-ice sessions (9-10:30 and 1:15-2:30), one dryland session and video skating analysis (11-noon) as well as pizza lunch. Cost is $100 ($85 if pre-registered before Friday).
